Partying with Chuck E. Cheese
Happy 1st Birthday Sam!!!
*He weighs 26 lbs. 1 oz. (87th percentile) and is 31 inches long (83rd percentile).
*He is wearing a size 4 diaper, 12-18 month clothes and a size 6 shoe.
*He has 6 teeth - four on the top and two on the bottom.
*He is still sleeping great at night but is protesting nap time during the day. We usually put him to bed around 8:30 and he sleeps until 7 or 7:30 the next morning without a peep. He still gets very sleepy during the day and really does need a nap (contrary to what HE believes) so at the suggestion of Dr. Sherwood, we have been putting him in his bed mid-afternoon and letting him "work it out" on his own. He usually cries until he falls asleep and will sleep for about 45 minutes. It is so sad listening to him cry but he really does need his rest and he must learn that he is not in charge ;) I always tell him he will thank me for this one day....
*Speaking of naps, he really SHOULD be exhausted because of all the walking, running and playing he does during the day. Ever since he started walking a few weeks ago he hasn't stopped or slowed down. He loves to explore all around the house and open any cabinet or drawer he can get his hands on!
*He gets a HUGE kick out of wrestling/playing with Rusty. He will walk over to wherever Rusty is laying and just jump on top of him and belly laugh. Rusty is such a good sport and loves kissing and playing with his baby. I have to admit, Rusty is very good about leaving Sam's toys alone but we can't say the same for Sam when it comes to Rusty's toys.
*He is such a good eater and will still eat just about anything we put in front of him. Baby food is still his favorite and Dr. Sherwood said that is ok. We give him small bites of table food when we are eating but he still prefers baby food and I will continue until he gets at least two more teeth on the bottom and shows more interest in table food. Dr. S says he will let me know when he is ready.
*He is talking and babbling up a storm and gets the biggest kick out of mimicking what we do. He has started trying to "wink" but he really ends up just squinting both of his eyes and blinking. It is too cute! His "wink" is what he likes to do when he meets a cute girl or a stranger when we are out. The combination of the wink and dropping his head sideways always works out for him ;)
*He also has lots of funny facial expressions to go with his flirtatious moves. The raising and scrunching of his eyebrows is probably my favorite.
*His favorite/most used words these days are: uh-oh, dada, mama, hey, bye bye, baby, ball, and thank you. He will also try to say anything you say to him and is so cute when he waves hi and bye and shakes his head yes and no.
*He can identify a baby and a ball when he sees them in books and can identify some of our family members in his picture albums. His favorite person to find, of course, is Dada! =)
Dear Sam,
One year ago today I woke up without a clue that it would be the day my life would change forever - the day I would meet you! At 1:29 p.m. I heard your first cries and held you in my arms - you were perfect and beautiful - but most importantly you were my precious son to take care of and love for the rest of my life. It is absolutely amazing the kind of love you can feel for someone you have only known for a few seconds. You have been the most indescribable blessing of my life and have brought us all so much laughter and joy. There are so many days that I just stare at you and wonder what I ever did to deserve such a precious little man like you. I have loved being able to work less and stay at home with you more - you change so much every day and I wouldn't miss it for the world! You are always happy and laughing and have such a sweet disposition. It is amazing how much you have blossomed over the past 365 days and I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for us. Happy Birthday precious Sam - I love you more than you will ever know!
