Adventures in Birmingham

Saturday morning we drove to Birmingham for the much anticipated Polar Express train ride Saturday night.

Sam and Jack posing in their Christmas pajamas at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera, Alabama (right outside of Birmingham).

Hayes, Banks and Sam waited outside of the museum while Didi went in to get our train tickets.

We were so glad that the Buckles family came with us!

And Lili & Shuffie!

Santa's elves with the boys.

Me and my girl all bundled up outside in the cold.

Brody, Adrienne, Me and Morgan.

Morgan was excited about her first train ride!

These two just make me smile so big.

Sam is comfy and ready to roll down the tracks.

This sweet guy is pretty happy, too.

"Look! It's the North Pole!"

Jack was watching carefully as the elves, Santa and Mrs. Clause made their way through the train car.

Sam's class bird, Rocket, came along with us on our adventure.  Boy would he have some stories to tell to Sam's kindergarten class next week!

Fives for Santa!

Cousins with Mrs. Clause and Santa

After our visit from Santa and Mrs. Clause, the elves came through and passed out chocolate chip cookies and milk.  Jack didn't waste any time taking a big bite out of his cookie!

Big smiles for cookies and milk.

Waving goodbye to the North Pole...until next year!

This baby girl was worn out after traveling to the North Pole.

After the train ride, a big group of us went to a local BBQ restaurant for a late dinner.  Morgan and Brody got a second wind and enjoyed visiting with each other at the end of the table.

On Sunday we went to the McWane Science Center in downtown Birmingham.

There were so many neat activities and exhibits on each of the three floors.

Adam even got to touch a stingray!

This girl was less than impressed with the museum, but enjoyed snoozing off and on while we pushed her around in the stroller.

Adam finally talked Sam into going back to the tank with him and touching the stingray.  He was nervous at first but then so proud of himself after he did it.  Great job, Sam!

Jack loved watching the fish swimming around.

The boys and I checked out some of the bugs under a microscope.

I'm not a big fan of bugs...at. all. But the things you do for your favorite people, right?

Sam and Daddy raced on these cool bikes.

Sam took his first zip line ride and loved it!

He even went back for a second and third ride!

Our last stop before we went home was the train exhibit on the third floor.

They had a small train and tracks setup in one area of the exhibit and the four boys took a short ride together.

We got home tonight around dinner time and all five of us were worn out from all of the fun we have had over the past two days.  Our trip to the North Pole definitely got us in the Christmas spirit and we enjoyed our time together making precious memories!
